Jon Hall - Recruiting Campaign

. It was just before the recession hit, and Neudesic was in an aggressive hiring mode. They were looking to recruit some tough to find talent, top-end developers and consultants who work at the highest level of programming and development with Microsoft products. I sat my Mac-bias aside, and together with my team we put together a recruiting campaign I was quite proud of. Microsite, viral email marketing, social media, some killer film footage, print and a fun guerilla ad campaign in the trade classifieds, I was eager to put this campaign to the test. Then the recession hit, and the client pulled the plug on the campaign. :-( Still, the concepts and execution were solid, so I thought I'd share it here. Bringing together clean, strategic, well thought out design is something that gets my juices flowing, for sure.

Neudesic has a bit of a unique company personality among technology developers, and we wanted to bring that out through this campaign. The home page was designed to have thematic elements, like the photo and headline, change with each campaign issue. The photos of the model/spokesperson are still taken during the film shoot we did.

Diving one level deeper into the site, we wanted to communicate something about the type of people Neudesic hires (and is looking for). A mix of professional and fun, they take what they do seriously, but not seriously.

Finding these high-end developers—who typically aren't looking for a job—was a challenge. We decided to start the campaign with Neudesic employees, who tend to have relationships with other like developers/consultants. A "share" component was added, with the hook being an on-going, humours series of video webisodes.

Advertising in trade and technology publications is expensive, and Neudesic didn't exactly have a huge advertising budget. We decided to place benign looking classified-type ads in these publications that would grab attention, with a mix of humor and irreverance.
